OVERVIEW:
621 Gallery invites US-based and international artists to submit to our call for proposals! We are accepting solo, duo, collectives, and curatorial proposals. Each exhibition is one month long.
621 Gallery is the oldest and largest contemporary arts venue in the North Florida region. We support artists’ professional development through creation and facilitation of public and educational programming, interaction with the local art community and engagement with diverse audiences.
We are eager to reach out beyond Tallahassee in the hopes of finding artists who will add breadth to our upcoming exhibition season. We urge emerging and established artists to apply with no limitations on medium or style. The gallery offers a main space that can be sectioned into two separate exhibition spaces (if needed) and the Nan Boynton Memorial Gallery that can be utilized for one-person shows or smaller group exhibitions. See layout below.
621 Gallery Exhibition Committee reviews all applications submitted for exhibition. The committee meets once a year to select artists for the next year’s exhibition season.
THE FACILITIES:
621 Gallery exhibition space consists of a large room (77'x 30') with a (12' x 12') free standing wall dividing the space into two main gallery spaces. The building is part of a World War II era lumber mill warehouse. The ceiling air-space is very open with original architecture exposed -- wooden support beams, a metal roof, and skylights allow some Florida sunshine into the space. Track lighting is attached to suspended steel frames in the front and back main galleries. The floors are raw, industrial cement and are a testament to the history of the building. The white walls are finished sheet rock up to 12′ height. The back wall of the main gallery has plywood under the sheet rock. The space is 2300 square feet in area. The adjoining Nan Boynton Memorial Gallery provides a more intimate, climate controlled (325 square ft) exhibition space with track lighting. The Nan Boynton Memorial Gallery is wonderful for solo or small group exhibitions or immersive installations!
Please note: the main gallery has a distinct, historical beauty, but is not climate controlled. We take specific precautions to ensure that no damage occurs; however, some non-traditional art materials do not stand up well to our Florida heat and humidity range. If you have any material concerns, please note them in your application.
